About AIX
What is AIX?
AIX (AI Market Index) is an independent initiative to provide institutional-grade market data for the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence industry. Our flagship product is the AI Purchasing Power Index (APPI), which tracks the cost efficiency of frontier AI language models over time.
Why We Built APPI
As AI becomes increasingly central to business operations, there's a growing need for standardized, transparent metrics that enterprises, researchers, and policymakers can rely on. APPI was designed to:
- Provide a consistent benchmark for AI cost trends
- Enable fair comparisons across providers with different pricing structures
- Support academic research on AI economics and accessibility
- Help organizations make informed budgeting decisions
- Track the democratization of AI technology through cost deflation
Our Principles
Transparency
All calculations, data sources, and assumptions are publicly documented and verifiable.
Independence
We maintain no financial relationships with indexed AI providers that could influence our methodology.
Rigor
Designed to meet standards for citation in academic papers, policy reports, and financial analysis.
Openness
Our methodology is licensed under Creative Commons, and we welcome public feedback and peer review.
Future Roadmap
APPI v1.0 is just the beginning. We're planning to expand with:
- v1.1 (Q2 2026): Expanded model coverage, regional pricing variants, open-source code
- v2.0 (Q4 2026): Market-share weighted models, quality-adjusted metrics, public API
- v3.0 (2027): Multi-modal indices, real-time updates, vertical-specific variants
